Asia-Pacific Landfill Symposium

The Asia-Pacific Landfill Symposium (APLAS) is an international conference held every two years to discuss issues related to landfill management and waste management. This symposium plays a significant role in promoting sustainable solid waste management practices and landfill management in the Asia-Pacific region, where the demand for landfill space is rapidly increasing due to population growth and urbanization.

The symposium has been a major event in the region for over two decades since 2000, providing a platform for participants to explore the latest trends and technologies in landfill and waste management, discuss best practices, and share practical solutions to challenges faced. Previous symposiums have been held in various countries across the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia.

For APLAS 2026, Institut Teknologi Bandung has been appointed as the main organizer of the 13th Asia-Pacific Landfill Symposium 2026 (APLAS 2026), marking the second time Indonesia hosts this prestigious event. This appointment underscores Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable waste management and reinforces its growing role in the global sustainability agenda.

The objectives of the symposium extend beyond mere discourse, they are rooted in actionable outcomes aimed at fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange. Researchers, practitioners, policymakers, industry experts, lecturers, and postgraduate students from diverse backgrounds converge to share insights, experiences, and innovative solutions.
